New Jersey (Atlantic City) Casinos & Gambling

New Jersey Gambling :: New Jersey Casinos :: New Jersey Casino

In 1976, New Jersey residents approved a bill legalizing gambling in Atlantic City, with the first casino, Resorts International, opening its doors to the public two years after. This was an attempt to revitalize Atlantic City, from a former popular resort town in the early 1900?s to a prime Casino destination.

Two decades after gambling was legalized in New Jersey, the economic gains have so far been very favorable. In 1985 alone, Atlantic City welcomed over some 29 to 33 million visitors, far more than what was expected. The industry also attracted investments in billions of dollars, creating over 50,000 jobs for the city.

The Casino Clubs

Casinos in Atlantic City are privately owned, state regulated, and restricted to that certain location only. New Jersey?s Casino Control Act stipulates that all forms of gambling here must take place within the confines of casino resorts. There are at least a dozen casino resorts operating in this city and most of them are world-class casino resorts.

To further enliven Atlantic City and improve its image as a fun casino destination, most casino resorts of late, have set up casino clubs. As the casino market expanded, many properties in Atlantic City developed to hotel towers with an assortment of gaming areas.

The Trump Plaza is one such typical Atlantic City casino. It used to be 31-storey tower but has since included a hotel tower, which formed part of a penthouse casino project. Trump Plaza?s makeover now includes a 5,000-square-foot casino bar called Liquid.

The Borgata Hotel, Casino & Spa infused nightlife by opening Mixx Club. Here clubbers have to get inside by finding their way through slots and roulette tables. It is a very exciting concept that leaves visitors eager and thrilled.

The Tropicana infused $280 million of a mixture of casino clubs, restaurant and boutiques. The establishment called The Quarter, while connected to a casino, is located in an area where tourists can also shop, dine or club hop.

The city once known as a playground of older citizens has turned into a hip and happening place attracting visitors of different and multiple interests. Much of the credit goes to the developers and investors of these signature stores, restaurants and exciting entertainment sites between and around the casino resorts.

This mix of concepts has opened new gates for Atlantic City. Here, one will discover not just a typical casino but a mecca of sorts. The mall/casino environment provides an all season, all year pass. With these, Atlantic City is emerging as a resort destination, growing more exciting and attractive by the day.
